10 backyard boredom busters for the kids
In today’s digital world getting the kids off their devices and out in the real world can be challenging sometimes… unless you have a kid-friendly garden that provides lots of opportunities for them to enjoy outdoor activities.
With summer just around the corner, now is a great time to make your yard fun!
1. Bring on the mud pies!
- If your kids like to hang out with you in the kitchen and want to give you a hand whenever you’re cooking a meal, an outdoor play kitchen could be the perfect entertainment for them. This is also a good way to reuse old cooking essentials such as pots and pans.
2. Get the kiddos energised with hopscotch
- A hopscotch game is not only easy to set up – it can simply be drawn on the driveway with chalk or it can consist of tiles laid out in the garden – it’s also perfect for an energetic balancing practise.
3. Build an outdoor chalkboard for your little artists
- With an outdoor chalkboard, the kids can get creative, practise writing and drawing and leave personalised messages for each other. This is also a safer alternative to drawing on sidewalks.
4. Get diggin’
- A sand pit is a classic playground feature that can be set up in a couple of hours. Add shovels, a spade, a bucket, a plastic sieve and a bunch of different toys and the kids will be entertained for hours.
5. Swing, swing, swing
- A swing set doesn’t have to be boring! Nowadays playsets come with lots of different variations such as monkey bars, slides, rock climbing walls, a trapeze, climbing ropes and more – the options are endless!
6. Set up a backyard campsite
- Get the kids involved in setting up the tent and filling it with comfy cushions and stuffed toys and add a picnic table to complete the camping adventure. This is also a great way to test the waters for your first “real” camping trip.
7. Ready set go!
- Your kid’s favourite toys can become even more exciting when they can be used outdoors, such as Matchbox cars. Set up your own racetrack in the backyard and customise the raceway with road signage, buildings and more.
8. What children’s dreams are made of
- A cubby house is perfect for imaginative play and is a great way to engage with friends. It’s not only great for the kid’s entertainment, it can also be used as a storage space during winter.
9. Splish splash
- Sometimes it’s simply too hot to spend all day in the backyard without being able to cool down. A kids pool is absolutely perfect for some water action and with the big variety of water toys and accessories available, it won’t get boring.
10. Get active
- Who says that exercise isn’t fun? Trampolines are ideal for kids that like to get moving and burn off energy.
Let your children make the most of this summer and add some fun play elements to your backyard. It’s always a good idea to add a big shade sail to the entertainment area, so the little ones aren’t exposed to the sun all day.
