Why water filtration is crucial (2)

Why water filtration is essential

As people prioritise their health and wellbeing more than ever, ensuring access to clean drinking water becomes crucial.

The problem: dangerous chemicals are in the water
Hazardous contaminates known as perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) have been discovered in tap water in every state and territory across the country, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age reported last month.

PFOS and PFOA are known as “forever chemicals” due to their persistence in their environment and in the human body.

The health risks:

  • Kidney and liver disease
  • Thyroid and insulin dysregulation
  • Reproductive and developmental issues
  • Cancer

Widespread contamination
The report found that publicly available data indicate the chemicals have been found in the drinking water of up to 1.8 million Australians since 2010, including:

  • the Queensland regional centres of Cairns and Gladstone
  • the Sydney suburbs of North Richmond, Quakers Hill, Liverpool, Blacktown, Emu Plains and Campbelltown
  • the NSW regional centres of Newcastle, Bathurst, Wagga Wagga, Lithgow, Gundagai and Yass
  • Canberra
  • the Melbourne suburb of Footscray
  • inner-city Adelaide
  • Kingborough in greater Hobart
  • locations across Darwin and the Northern Territory.

Why a water filtration system
In an interview on Today, Dr Mariann Lloyed-Smith from the International Pollutant Elimination Network recommended reducing exposure to PFOS and PFOA as much as possible.

An effective way to minimise the risk of exposure is through water filtration. Here are some key reasons as to why a water filtration system is vital:

  1. Reduced levels of harmful contaminants in your drinking water, protecting you and your family from potential health risks.
  2. Filtered water ensures you stay hydrated this summer without the worry of ingesting harmful chemicals.
  3. Relying on bottled water as an alternative poses its own health risks and contributes to plastic pollution. Filtered water is the more sustainable solution.

Given the alarming presence of PFOS and PFOA in Australia’s tap water and the serious health risks they pose, investing in a water filtration system before summer is a smart and proactive step. It will ensure you have access to clean, safe drinking water without harming the environment. Don’t wait for regulatory changes – take control of your water quality and protect your family.
