5 ideas to transform your garden for winter

It’s getting colder in Brisbane and with winter just around the corner, we often find ourselves hiding indoors rather than spending time outside. There’s nothing wrong with curling up on the couch when it’s cold outside, but who says you can’t as well be relaxing in your backyard? It’d be a shame to only make use of your garden during summertime, so we came up with 5 garden ideas to help you make the most of your backyard all year round.

1. Build a deck

A deck doesn’t only increase the value of your home, it’s also the perfect place to get together with friends and family to soak up the sun while having a winter barbecue. There are a lot of options when it comes to building a deck. You can choose from different materials like natural wood, composite decking, PVC, bamboo and more.

2. Furnish your patio
Patio furniture

Leisure sofas, hammocks, bean bags, string swings, cushions & blankets -the more comfortable, the better! Just make sure most of your outdoor furniture and upholstery is weatherproof, so you don’t need to store everything away when you retreat inside at the end of the day.

3. Set up a fire pit

Having a fire pit in your garden is a perfect reason to get out of the house, as you’ll still be nice and warm while spending time outdoors. You can either buy a fire pit that’s ready for use or build your own.

4. Install warm outdoor lighting

Brighten your outdoor entertaining area with ‘warm white’ outdoor lights rather than ‘cool white’ lights to create a cosy atmosphere. Consider using solar-powered lights to save energy. You can also hang fairy lights in your garden to create a more romantic setting.

5. Create your own DIY greenhouse

If you’re worried that some of your plants might not make it through to spring, you might want to keep them in a greenhouse to protect them from the cold. You don’t have to set up an enormous greenhouse, perhaps a small DIY greenhouse will be the perfect fit for you?
