The 5 most common issues a plumbing inspection might uncover

When life gets busy, it is understandable that some tasks on your “to-do” list can be pushed to the back of the mind, to be dealt with another day.

But scheduling an annual home plumbing inspection shouldn’t be one of these things, as a regular check can detect potential plumbing issues before they become major problems, which can save you a lot of money and trouble.

Here are the five most common issues our plumbers come across when conducting a plumbing inspection:

1. Rusted or poorly-installed flexible water hoses

Rusted or poorly-installed flexible hoses can cost you thousands in water damage to your home, and most insurance companies may not cover the costs when this happens. Therefore flexible hoses should be checked by a licenced plumber at least once a year and older braided stainless steel flexi hoses need to be replaced every 5 years or earlier.

Pro tip: Consider having your old stainless steel flexi hoses replaced. We install polyamide braided flexi hoses that won’t rust and have a durability of 15 years.

2. Low or inconsistent water pressure

Low or inconsistent water pressure is a frustrating problem that can be caused by various plumbing issues like faulty fixtures, water valve issues, clogged water pipes or others. To get to the bottom of what is causing the issue, a full assessment by a qualified plumber is required.

3. Poor workmanship

Unfortunately, our plumbers often come across low-quality workmanship, poor-quality materials or unfinished plumbing jobs. When conducting a plumbing inspection, we check for signs of dodgy work to ensure you don’t have to suffer the consequences.

4. Old and leaking hot water systems

A leak can indicate that your hot water system has reached the end of its lifespan. It’s something that must not be ignored, as this can lead to not enough hot water, no hot water at all or worse still, a flood.

5. Slow flowing drains

If water flows through your drain slower than normal, then this could be due to a blockage in your pipe that is restricting the water flow. An effective way of detecting blockages and keeping your plumbing system flowing is to get a camera inspection of your drains.

These are only some of the things we look out for when we conduct a plumbing inspection in your home.
