What to look out for in your hot water system

Leaks

This occurs when a tank is left uncleaned over a long period of time, which allows debris to build up at the bottom of the tank. When a tank is heated up, the heat at the bottom becomes trapped by the sediment, causing it to build up at the bottom and eventually blast through the build-up to rise to the top of the tank, making a popping noise.

Sulphuric smell

If your home is fitted with a gas hot water system, then you may need to be wary of any sulphuric-like smells coming from your system. This often means that there is a gas leak in your hot water system.
