Expert Pipe Relining in Cleveland: A No-Dig Solution for Broken Pipes
The thought of a major plumbing problem often brings up images of noisy excavators, a ruined garden, and a hefty repair bill. For decades, fixing a broken pipe underground meant digging a large trench right through your property. Thankfully, modern technology offers a far more elegant and less destructive solution.
This advanced method is called trenchless relining, and the expert team at Fallon Solutions recently used this exact technique to solve a tricky plumbing issue for a customer in Cleveland, restoring their pipes without a single shovel breaking ground.
The Problem: A Failing Earthenware Pipe
The homeowner in Cleveland was experiencing issues related to an old earthenware pipe. Common in many established homes, earthenware (or clay) pipes are susceptible to cracking and deterioration over time due to ground movement, water pressure, and invasive tree roots.
The customer was facing the classic signs of a leaking pipe:
- Potential for recurring drain blockages.
- The risk of water leaking into the surrounding soil, which can damage foundations.
- Concerns about the pipe’s overall structural integrity failing completely.
They needed a permanent solution for their broken pipe, but wanted to avoid the significant disruption and cost of excavating their property. This made their situation a perfect candidate for earthenware pipe relining.
The Solution: Precision Trenchless Relining
Our licensed drain plumber in Cleveland arrived on-site to perform a state-of-the-art repair. The goal was to build a brand new, super-strong pipe inside the old damaged one. Here’s how we did it:
- Preparation and Cleaning: First, we thoroughly cleaned the inside of the old pipe using a powerful hydro-jet. Think of it as a high-pressure clean for your plumbing, removing years of build-up and debris to create a perfect surface for the new lining to bond to.
- Detailed CCTV Inspection: With the pipe clean, our technician used a specialised drain camera to get a clear, live video feed from inside. This allowed us to precisely locate and assess the damaged sections that needed repair, which were found at approximately two and five metres from our access point.
- Creating the New Pipe: This is where the magic of pipe relining happens. We prepared a special fabric liner (the sleeve) and saturated it with a powerful epoxy resin specifically formulated for earthenware pipes. This resin-soaked sleeve was then fitted onto an inflatable tube, known as a bladder.
- Positioning and Curing: Using the CCTV camera as our guide, we carefully navigated the bladder and sleeve through the pipe, positioning it perfectly over the cracked sections. The bladder was then inflated, pressing the resin sleeve firmly against the inside walls of the old pipe. It’s held under pressure while the resin cures and hardens, forming a seamless, joint-free, and incredibly durable new pipe.
- Final Confirmation: Once the resin had fully cured, we deflated and removed the bladder. The final step was to conduct one last CCTV inspection to confirm the new lining was perfectly bonded and the pipe was fully restored. Our team then cleaned up the work area, leaving the property exactly as we found it.
The Benefits for the Homeowner
This trenchless relining process delivered significant benefits beyond just fixing the leak. The customer now enjoys:
- Minimal Disruption: Their garden, driveway, and landscaping were completely untouched. The entire repair was completed through a small existing access point.
- A Long-Term Solution: The new inner pipe is not just a patch; it’s a structural repair. It’s incredibly strong, corrosion-resistant, and impervious to tree root intrusion.
- Improved Flow: The smooth, seamless interior of the new pipe improves water flow and reduces the chances of future blockages.
- Peace of Mind: They have confidence knowing their plumbing is secure and reliable for decades to come, protecting their property’s value.
