Starting from January 1, 2027, all homes in the state will be required to have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms installed in bedrooms and other designated areas. This mandatory upgrade aims to enhance fire safety and protect lives.
What are the new requirements?
- Photoelectric smoke alarms: These are the only type of smoke alarms allowed, as they are more sensitive to slow-burning fires.
- Interconnected: All smoke alarms in the home must be interconnected, ensuring that if one alarm detects smoke, they all sound.
- 10-year lifespan: Smoke alarms must be replaced every 10 years or if they fail a test.
- Hardwired or battery-powered: Alarms can be hardwired or powered by a non-removable 10-year battery.
