What’s Growing Inside Your Drains?

After a dry winter, your drains may be more vulnerable than you realise.

When conditions are dry, tree roots naturally search for moisture. If there are small cracks, damaged joins or weak points in underground pipes, roots can find their way inside.

Once they do, they can contribute to blockages and further pipe damage.

The warning signs to watch for

Keep an eye — and an ear — out for:

  • Water unexpectedly pooling around the yard
  • Gurgling sounds from sinks, toilets or drains
  • Slow-draining sinks and showers
  • Unpleasant drain or sewer smells
  • Toilets that regularly struggle to flush or back up

One symptom doesn’t necessarily mean you have tree root damage, but if something around your drains has changed, it can be worth finding out why.
