What is Tariff 33?
Economy Tariff 33 provides electricity for home appliances that don’t need to run during peak times, like your pool pump. It’s available for 18 hours through the day and night during the lower demand times of 8 pm to 4 pm.
The peak daily demand times occur between 4 pm and 8 pm when everyone is at home making dinner, using lighting, hot water and home appliances. Energy consumption is at its highest during this time each day. Increasing demand during this time costs the electricity network more every year due to the ongoing need for more infrastructure in order to cope, resulting in higher power supply costs.
How else can you save power?
Connecting your pool to Tariff 33 is just one of the things you can do to reduce your power bills and decrease SEQ’s peak electricity demand. You and your household can also:
- Keep your air conditioner set at 24 degrees
- Clean the air conditioner filters regularly
- Install a ceiling fan – they use a lot less power
- Don’t leave appliances on standby, turn off at the switch

- Use your dishwasher and washing machine during lower demand times
- Switch your electric hot water system to an economy tariff as well
