Expert Drain Repair in Thornlands: A Hybrid Solution
Are you tired of dealing with the same slow drains and gurgling noises, no matter how many times you try to fix them? Recurring issues are often a sign of a deeper problem underground, one that requires a professional and permanent solution.
Recently, the Fallon Solutions team was called to a property in Thornlands to tackle a complex sewer issue. This project perfectly showcases how combining traditional techniques with modern technology can provide a comprehensive, lasting drain repair.
The Problem: Two Failures in One System
The homeowner in Thornlands was experiencing persistent sewer problems. A simple blockage was not the cause; our initial investigation revealed two separate points of failure within their underground pipework.
- A Broken Junction: A critical 45-degree PVC pipe section, which connected their bathroom to the main line, was physically broken. This compromised the entire junction, causing leaks and blockages.
- Heavy Tree Root Intrusion: Deeper in the main sewer line, about 10 metres from an access point, aggressive tree roots had forced their way into the pipe, creating a major obstruction and further damaging the pipe’s structure.
These damaged sewer pipes meant that a single-method approach wouldn’t suffice. The property needed a tailored solution that addressed both distinct problems at their source.

The Solution: The Best of Both Worlds
Our licensed drain plumber in Thornlands developed a strategic, two-part plan to restore the sewer system, using the best method for each specific issue.
Part 1: Targeted Excavation for the Junction Repair
For the broken PVC junction, a direct, hands-on pipe repair was the most effective approach. Our team carefully excavated a small, targeted area to gain access to the damaged section. The old, broken pipe was completely removed and replaced with a new, high-quality PVC junction.
Crucially, while the ground was open, we installed a new surface-access junction point. This smart addition makes any future inspections or maintenance simple, fast, and non-invasive for the homeowner.
Part 2: ‘No-Dig’ Relining for Root Intrusion
To tackle the tree root issue deep underground without digging up the entire garden, we used advanced trenchless technology, also known as ‘no-dig’ relining.
- Cleaning and Inspection: First, we used a CCTV camera to pinpoint the exact location and cleaned the inside of the pipe with abrasive tools to ensure a perfect bond.
- Creating a New Pipe: We then prepared a tough fabric liner, saturated it in a powerful epoxy resin, and fitted it to an inflatable bladder.
- Precision Placement: Using the camera as our guide, we navigated the liner into the pipe and positioned it perfectly over the root-damaged section.
- Curing: The bladder was inflated, pressing the resin liner firmly against the old pipe’s walls. After it hardened, or ‘cured’, the bladder was removed.
The result is a brand-new, super-strong, and seamless pipe inside the old one, completely sealing off any cracks and creating an impenetrable barrier against future root intrusion.
The Benefits for the Homeowner
This comprehensive, hybrid approach provided the client with multiple significant benefits.
- A Permanent, Tailored Solution: The problem was fixed correctly, using the best method for each specific issue, ensuring a complete and lasting repair.
- Long-Term Reliability: The combination of new PVC and the tough relined section means the entire system is now structurally sound and highly resistant to future issues.
- Peace of Mind Guaranteed: The pipe repair is backed by a 10-year patch warranty on the relined section and includes a complimentary 12-month follow-up CCTV inspection.
- Minimal Disruption: Trenchless relining preserved the majority of their garden, while the new access junction adds convenience and value for the future.
