Lights pass first test for Tasracing

Thoroughbred chief steward Wade Hadley has given the first test of the lighting system at The TOTE Racing Centre was a huge success.

Two horses from the Barry Baker stable galloped over 800 metres under lights tonight (Saturday), one of which was ridden by senior rider Shannon Brazil.

“The track looked magnificent under lights and the two horses that galloped, of which one was a two-year-old, went around without any problems whatsoever,” Hadley said. “The lighting was great and we are now eagerly awaiting the full set of trials here on Tuesday night. After that, we will have a full dress rehearsal with about eight trials on April 8, 2010, and that will be with a full stewards’ panel. The trial night will be treated as if it were a full-scale race meeting,” he said.

The first night meeting at The TOTE Racing Centre will be held on April 15, 2010, with full Sky coverage on the new Sky2 channel and it will include a live hosting with Peter Staples who will provide Late Mail and provide pre and post-race interviews as well as mounting yard comments and analysis on all runners in each race.

Neil T Fallon Services (Fallon Solutions) was commissioned in 2009 to design and construct the lighting for the Tasracing TOTE Racing Centre at Mowbray in Launceston. Utilising a mostly local Tasmanian workforce the lighting system is in the final stages of commissioning.

The project includes 44 poles and 750 light fittings and is one of the largest outdoor sport lighting projects completed in Australia. In 2009 Fallon Services successfully commissioned the lighting system at Corbould Park on the Sunshine Coast for Qld Racing.
