Solar Sharer Offer: Free Midday Electricity for South East Queensland Homes
There is good news for South East Queensland households looking for smarter ways to reduce electricity costs. The Australian Government’s new Solar Sharer Offer is expected to begin from 1 July 2026, giving eligible households access to at least three hours of free electricity during the middle of the day, when solar generation is at its peak.
The offer is expected to be available to eligible households with a smart meter, whether they have rooftop solar or not, and whether they own or rent their home. It will be optional, which means households will need to sign up through their energy retailer once the offer becomes available.
For homes that take it up, the savings opportunity will come from shifting some electricity use into the free daytime power window. Everyday tasks such as running the dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, pool pump, hot water system on a timer, or even charging an EV may become more cost-effective when timed correctly.
