3 Ways to Beat The Heat
The Bureau Of Meteorology has issued Brisbane residents with a warning that this week is going to be hot… Really really hot!
The news has been welcomed by some who are looking to develop their tan but it has also struck fear into others who are feeling unprepared for the onslaught of sleepless nights caused by hot bedrooms.
The heat means it’s the perfect time to get down to the beach or spend time with the kids at the local pool but for the majority of people, the real concern is the disruption to their quality of sleep overnight. We all know the feeling of constantly tossing and turning in a bed which feels more like a damp sponge in a sauna than a place of rest.
Temperatures exceeding 30 degrees are currently predicted to persist for at least a week, making good on the promises made weeks earlier that numerous heat waves would be hitting Brisbane throughout the summer period.
How to beat the heat
If you’re finding it hard to sleep at night because of the unrelenting heat, there are a couple of things you can do to make it through the night…
1. Don’t miss the mist
Buy a cheap spray bottle from the supermarket and fill it with tap water. Keep it next to the bed and put a fan in the room too. Lay on top of the sheets and spray your exposed skin with mist from the spray bottle. The fine layer of water on your skin will draw out the heat and the fan will evaporate it quickly, effectively lowering your body temperature just like a radiator in a car!
2. Ice is nice
Freeze half a bottle of water during the day, then before bed take it out and fill the rest with water from the tap and give it a good shake. You’ll have an instant icy cold drink to enjoy immediately. Plus as the ice slowly melts during the night you’ll be able to get a few sips of crisp, cold water to cool you down and keep hydrated.
3. Block out the sun
If your bedroom gets really hot during a summer night then do your best to block out all sun during the day. Keep curtains closed, install window tint or blackout blinds if you need to. This will stop the room from getting as hot during the day and give you a cool sanctuary to retreat to at night time when you need it the most.
