Crackdown on unlicenced gas fitting work

In a crackdown on unlicenced gas fitting work in Queensland plumbers and gas fitters are now required to carry photo identification.

The government hopes the new regulations will protect residents from being misled by unlicensed and uninsured tradespeople carrying out shonky and unsafe work.

The Minister for State Development and Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Dr Anthony Lynham said the revised regulations, including the requirement to carry a Queensland Gas Work Licence or face fines, aims to prevent shonky gas installation or repair work by unlicensed tradies or DIY enthusiasts which can lead to explosions, fire, injury, or death.

“It’s critical that people use one of Queensland’s 6000-plus licenced gas fitters for domestic and commercial work to ensure a safe and efficient job”, the minister said.

“It’s a simple rule – no licence, no work,” he said.

Authorities are encouraging people to request to see the Queensland Gas Work Licence before any gas fitting work is carried out.
