Gauge the Condition of Your Air Conditioner
According to recent estimates, there are about 9.2 million air conditioning units currently being used in Australia. Given that it’s the season when we all feel like climbing into an esky just to escape the blistering summer heat, that’s hardly surprising. However, machines that see constant use also need constant monitoring, and your air conditioner is no exception — it pays to be aware of your unit’s current state. Here are a few signs that you might need to call in our air conditioning service experts.
1. If your air conditioning unit makes strange sounds, that’s a possible indicator that something is not right inside the machine. Maybe it’s a loose belt, or a lack of lubrication, or even broken parts. Whatever the cause happens to be, it’s still cause for concern.
2. Weird smells coming out of your air conditioner can mean that mould has settled in. They could also be a sign that your air conditioner’s wire insulation may be damaged.
3. You should also call for assistance if you notice leaks or moisture in places that should be dry.
4. Have your air conditioner checked if the air coming out of it is not cool anymore, or if the air flow is relatively weaker than normal. Both are signs that the air conditioner’s compressor might be damaged. Additionally, if you feel like your air conditioner isn’t blasting cool air anymore, that’s probably a sign that its refrigerant levels have decreased.
5. If you notice that your room (or home) has become quite dusty over a short period of time, it might be an indicator that your air conditioner’s filter is damaged.
6. If your utility bill turns out to be surprisingly higher than expected, your air conditioner might be malfunctioning, or draining more power than it should.
7. If your air conditioner is more than a decade old, you probably need to replace it with a newer model. Older units are prone to breaking down and malfunctioning. Besides, you’re better off with a new unit if you take energy efficiency, performance, and environment-friendliness into consideration.
